Calling All Readers

2009 May 1

If you’re reading this blog, you’ve got at least one or two creative bones in your body.  Don’t deny it, you know you do.

And since you’re all so creatively fabulous, I think it’s high time that I asked a favor of all of you lovely people.  Okay, that was a lie – it’s really two favors.  But they’re just teensy ones, I promise!  Here we go:

1.  Casting Call.  Here’s your chance to flaunt your fabulousness, whether you’ve conquered an amazing DIY project or a massive renovation – I want to feature your project!  Just send me an email at itsgreattobehome@yahoo.com with pics of your project and a quick blurb about what you did.  (And for all you bloggers, be sure to include your blog URL so that I can give you a shout-out!).

2.  Reader Poll.  It’s time to fill me in on what you want to see on It’s Great To Be Home.  More remodeling stories and tips?  Decorating consultsTutorials on DIY projects?  Leave me a comment with your suggestions – if you’ve got an idea off the top of your head, great, or feel free to browse through my archives to find a favorite post and ask for more like that one.  Just ask and I’ll deliver!

I can’t wait to hear from you guys – I know you’re going to have some awesome projects to feature and suggestions to post.  Bring it on!

P.S  Be sure to stop by Christy’s blog for her amazing “before and after” family room reveal – I promise, it’s fabulous!

I think you have a good mix of remodeling stories + DIY info. I wouldn’t change the current mix! It’s also interesting to read about quirky things, like the “farm animal” listing you posted this week. Keep up the awesome work!

After living in our home for nearly two years, we are FINALLY starting some projects – partly because I have been inspired by so many blogs (your’s included, Liz) and have an itch to do some work. Our biggest upcoming project is our master bath renovation. We have guests coming for the 4th of July holiday so our goal is to have it done by then. We are doing it ourselves with the help of a very skillful friend. I will definitely send before and after pics when we’ve completed. Cross your fingers for us!

As for your blog, Liz, I would love to see more DIY projects. I am trying to channel my inner creative and risk-taking side and am ready to attempt some new challenges! Thanks for the good reads!

Well as you already know, I just love your site. If I can think of any more diy projects we’ve done, I’ll send them to you. Of course I can!

I would love to see more of your design consults – your mood boards are the best. And more how-to’s – like for my fireplace. That was awesome.

And I think it’ll be fun to see everyone else’s diy projects they send in! Fun for us all!

You ARE DOING US a favor by making your website more relevant to your fans. In my perfect world, everyone would poll me on what they could do to serve me better! Thanks for the opportunity, Liz.
I read your posts daily, and enjoy them all. I am a sucker for renovations, so maybe they are my favorite. Just keep showing your quirky humor and wonderful writing skills — your site is terrific!

i would also love to see more DIY projects from anyone, you or readers. i’ve been working on my house for over a year, one project at a time. the diy info is extremely useful for those of us on a tight budget! and i love the basic info you provide for those of us without a clue (mint, fireplaces, mosquitos, subfloors, etc).

Hm, renos, diys, design consults – do I really have to choose just one!? I say more of all of them :-) I LOVE the content of your blog! I really think you do a great job mixing it up. Though, I totally agree with Joan – I wish everyone would ask me what they could do better :-) Thanks, and keep up the good work :-)

I just moved into a new house and don’t have a lot of extra money lying around to get all new furniture. I want to do some repainting of a lot of things, dressers, armoires, kitchen table, chairs, crib…but I don’t know how. Maybe something on painting furniture one already has to give it a “new” look.

    Love the website!

You guys are awesome – thanks for all of your suggestions, I can’t wait to get started!!

It seems like more DIY is the common theme here, and I guarantee that I have some new projects in mind (that will hopefully come to fruition in the not-so-distant future!!). Staining, painting, decoupaging – you name it, it’s on the way. Stay tuned!!

    Joan,

Funny you should ask about that gorgeous headboard – you can count on it being one of the projects that’s “in the works.” :)

Ooh I love Averill’s idea too. And THANK YOU for linking up to my blog today. I have already had more than TWICE as many hits today as any other day in my blogs history! And it’s only 5pm EST. How freaking cool is that? I have Julia’s hooked on party and YOU to thank for that! Muchas gracias! :-)
