Homebody Query: Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets?

Have you guys heard about the Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets?  I’ve been intrigued ever since I saw a commercial the other day, so I decided to dig up a little more info about these potentially-very-nifty little sheets.

Purex

Basically, these skinny little sheets contain detergent, fabric softener and an anti-static component.

Purex

All you do is toss one sheet into the washing machine with a load of laundry, and then transfer the same sheet along with the load to the dryer – and that’s it!!

Purex

The large blue part of the sheet is detergent, which dissolves in the washing machine and cleans your clothes.  The lighter blue stripe at the top of the sheet is the fabric softener/anti-static component that is activated by the heat in your dryer to make your clothes soft and fluffy.

Purex

No more lugging around huge plastic containers of detergent that drip all over the place!!  Doesn’t that sound cool?

Here’s the skinny on any question you might have about these suckers:

These laundry sheets sound almost too good to be true.  So, my question is – are they?  Has anybody tried them yet?  Are you as intrigued as I am by this new invention?  I’ve vowed to go through my seemingly-eternal supply of detergent before I give them a whirl, so I’m relying on you guys to let me know if they’re worth it – spill the beans!!

Oh I’m intrigued too – I’ve never heard of these before. I hope one of your other readers has tried them. I have a HUGE thing of detergent to go through before I could potentially try them out…

Haven’t tried them myself but Dumbwit Tellher sang Purex’s praises here:

      Averill,

Excellent!! I’m glad Dumbwit Tellher took the plunge – now I’m going to have to try them out when I run out of detergent! (Which will probably never happen – a few months ago I got the itch to try an eco-friendly brand, and now I have TWO things of detergent!).

This is too funny – my husband and I have been talking about these since we saw the first commericial for them last week! There is no doubt we are going to try it as soon as we run out of detergent! Thanks for all the info on them!

i’ve seen those ads but never understood how they work… that sure is an amazing product!

I’m not convinced of the value of this product.

Looks like more junk for our landfills. At least laundry soap boxes and jugs are recycleable, so that when you’ve finished the wash, you haven’t created garbage.

  6. I tried them! Liked them just fine, and definitely convenient. I don’t really see how they are creating extra waste though… the part you throw away is just like a dryer sheet in the end. Not sure if the box is recycleable…?

  7. Kallie says:

I have used the product and I would have to say that it gave me a horrible rash. I don’t have sensitive skin and I have used every type of laundry detergent and this is the worst thing ever so be careful if you do buy the product.

    • Liz says:

      Kallie,

That is definitely great to know! Sorry you had to be the unfortunate guinea pig, but we’ll definitely be on the lookout for any crazy reactions – hopefully it won’t happen to anyone else, and thanks for filling us in!

I agree with Kallie. I used the tropical fresh purex sheets and broke out in a terrible rash all over my body. Would not recommend trying that fragrance!

  9. Robin says:

I’ve used them and we’ve experienced some spotting with I’m assuming the fabric softenenr part of them. Wouldn’t recommend them!
