Our Flip: Fun With Big Machines

It’s time to bust out the big guns.

Want a sneak peek at what’s going on at our flip at this very moment?  Check it out:

Oh yeah, that’s right – it’s my brother-in-law on a ProTrac.  [A ProTrac is like a skid loader that you stand on – and a skid loader is a piece of equipment that you can attach different types of tools to, like buckets, augers, trenchers, etc. – don’t worry, I didn’t know either until yesterday.]

And what is he doing on that crazy piece of equipment, you might ask?  Well, he’s going to move this:

over here, to raise the ground level after we removed the original pool decking:

He started leveling things out yesterday by hand, and after about 4 hours of constant work it looked like this:

[Are you oohing and aahing over the pool?  Wait til you see what it used to look like!!  Don’t worry, I’ll fill you in on what’s been going on with the pool a little later.]

Clearly it was time to part with the $160 it would cost to rent a ProTrac – using the machine will speed this process up by about 4 days.  Talk about a worthwhile investment!!

Wanna see how that big pile of fill dirt wound up in the driveway?  If you were following my Tweets, you know it was no easy feat!!  Here are the pics, thanks to my hubby’s quick work with his camera phone:

Maneuvering that dump truck down the alley and around all the power lines and the dumpsters was apparently a total nail-biter.  And they had to do it twice!!  Luckily there was no big disaster (although the hubby said he hid in the garage during the power line scare . . . I should hope so!!).

Now you’re up to speed on today’s activities over at the flip – things are moving so fast and looking awesome, so hopefully it will be on the market in no time!

What’s the biggest piece of equipment you’ve ever used?  For me, it’s a drill  – what about you?  A table saw?  A jack hammer?  Maybe you’ve conquered the ProTrac!

Power tools rock! However, I’m attached to all my digits (couldn’t resist), so I am VERY careful.
My favorite equipment is a skill saw . . . it has 345345 uses. I’ve attached it to a raised bed so I can use it as a table saw, but it can be hand held as a free moving saw. Big plus it that it isn’t as dangerous as a circular or band saw.
I really like the attachments I can use on my drill too. I’ve never done much at all with my Dremel outfit, but it LOOKS like it could be super.
I hate to site any skill with my dustbuster, but what would our lives be without it?
    Regarding your renovation – WOW!

I like the pergola over the door!

Yay, we love the pergola, too! It is certainly a huge improvement over the green plastic sheeting that used to cover the patio – we think it gives it a bit of an oasis-feel, and I think it would be awesome with some outdoor curtains! I think the backyard just may come together after all. :)

I’m totally impressed by all the tools in your repertoire!! I’ve always wanted to use a table saw, but we’ll see about that – I’m with you on wanting to keep my digits! Your skill saw sounds really cool, I may have to check that out!

The suspense is killing me! I’m checking your blog more than any other looking for “flip updates!” I’m very inspired by you guys!

    Can’t wait to see more!

PS: Are you going to break down the “flip” costs for us in the end? I hate to be nosy, but I’m going to be very curious at the end of your flip to know, start to finish {maybe not including the cost of the house} how much it was to complete your AMAZING flip!?!

I’m so glad you’re loving it!! It’s been so fun sharing this transformation with you guys, and I’m just as excited as you are for the big reveal!!

Hmm, that’s an excellent question about a cost breakdown – we’ll have to see!! :)
