Can I just say how fun it is to play pretend? That’s why I’m so excited to participate in Mood Board Monday (created by Room Remix and hosted today by Comfort and Luxury).
Basically, the whole idea behind Mood Board Monday is to design an entire imaginary room around a single item – today, that item is the fabulous (and wallet-busting) Antwerp Chair from Anthropologie:
Gorgeous, right? If someone gave me $1,698, I would totally buy that chair.
The second I saw this chair I knew that I wanted to create an eclectic, bohemian, cozy, inviting, spicy space. To live in this space, I imagined a successful young professional that scrimped and saved for years until she could afford a fabulous, Spanish-inspired bungalow in California – picture white plaster walls, coved ceilings and rich wood floors. And let’s throw in a fireplace with gorgeous vintage tile just for funsies.
Anyhoo, our young professional couldn’t bear to paint those white plastered walls and detract from their natural beauty, so she decided to bring warmth and personality into her living room with vibrant color and inviting textures.
The velvet fainting sofa sits in front of a bay window that is flanked by spicy curtains – the deep orange in the curtains is repeated in the ikat and paisley pillows on the sofa. The swing arm lamp provides reading light over the sofa, while the ginger side table is placed on the other side of the sofa for drinks and magazines. Our young professional rests her feet on the woven coffee table, which sits on top of the chocolate brown rug with a trellis print in ivory. On the wall opposite the sofa, two Antwerp Chairs sit on either side of the mirrored side table, and the orangey-red lamp provides some ambient lighting. On the third wall, the glass-fronted cabinet acts as a media console for the flat screen TV, and all of the techie components are hidden inside. Finally, two faceted pendants hang from the ceiling at either end of the room, drawing your eye around the space.
1. Antwerp Chair, Spectrum Swirl – $1,698.00 (x 2); 2. Faceted Mirror Side Table -$199.00; 3. Mini Teardrop Table Lamp in Ginger – $59.00; 4. Sunflower Mirror – $49.95 (x 2); 5. Planters Buffet – $999.00; 6. Spice Basketweave Grommet Curtains – $49.98; 7. Faceted Glass Pendant Lamp – $89.99 (x 2); 8. Ginger Side Table – $299.00; 9. Orange Ikat Pillow Cover – $17.00 (x 2); 10. Embroidered Paisley Pillow – Rust – $34.95; 11. Pleated-Shade Floor Lamp – $249.00; 12. Antoinette Fainting Sofa – Caribbean – $575.00; 13. Concentric Coffee Table – $299.00; 14. Fallon Brown / Ivory Contemporary Rug (8 x 11) – $655.00.
Total: just over $7,000. Ouch! But it’s fun to dream, right?
How do you think our young professional did?

I like that you mixed some inexpensive items with the more pricey pieces. That rug is great and $655 for and 8×11 isn’t a bad price.
Karen,
I have a huge crush on that rug, I love that it’s so affordable! And you’re right – while it’s fun to drool over all of the expensive designer pieces, the truth is that most of us mix and match with more affordable items and save up for those show-stoppers. I like to throw a little dose of reality in there!! :)

There is nothing I don’t love about your room. I want to move into it, and into that spectacular spanish bungalow in California pronto. If I had to choose favorites, they would be: the chair, obviously! The fug, and the sofa. I LOVE the name of it – Antoinette Fainting Sofa. Sigh. A girl can dream!!!
I love this room! Great combination of colors and textures… that sofa and coffee table thrown together is so unexpected but lots of fun. I like how you approached the room from the home’s architectural style and I don’t think what you’ve spent is excessive at all (did you notice I didn’t list item prices on mine?… the total was beginning to scare me!)
Thanks for playing! I haven’t been here before, so I’ll take a look around now…
Hi! Gotta love the Antwerp! So cool how everyone’s rooms are so different. I love where you’ve taken yours….pulling out the orange as the your accent color. Too funny, I almost used that same ginger side table from Crate and Barrel in mine. You have great taste, beautiful room!
Love all the colors you brought in! I picked that chair, too, and I think it made it easy to work with other colors.
It’s so amazing how everyone has put a completely different spin on this chair! Love what you’ve done. Like the way you pulled in the spicy orange to sass it up a bitt too. Great job!

I bought that rug a few weeks ago in gray- LOVE it!
I love that you designed this room for a Spanish-style CA bungalow — I can totally picture it and that chair is MADE for it.
I loved your design, but also the wonderful scenario with it, complete with personality. Great presentation, Liz!
Maybe we should all send you a photo of one item we love in our own homes that we can’t make work. We can get group suggestions. This group has lots of different tastes and takes on decorating. I’m going to take a picture of the beloved but orphoned item right now! We can make it a decorative rescue mission.
Great job on designing a gorgeous room around the chair you chose, Liz! The rug and fainting sofa are beautiful choices and the entire room looks so stylish and comfortable!
It looks great great. I love the fainting sofa, so luxe. Everything looks great.
That chair is so fun! You always have the best finds!
absolutely fabulous!
Great room – great price! The fainting sofa – yes!
