Can you believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner? I love this time of year, chock full of festiveness.
One thing that is especially cool about Thanksgiving is that it causes everyone to set aside some time, if even just a few moments, to reflect upon all of their blessings and be thankful for them. In that spirit of giving thanks, I whipped up these little place cards for our Thanksgiving table:
The idea is that once everyone finds their seat, they will fill in the card with what they are most thankful for. I think it would be fun for everyone to switch pumpkins and then read them aloud, to share with one another what they are each thankful for.
Except for 10 cents worth of raffia, this project was totally free (using my polished pumpkins from Halloween) and it really adds a personal touch to the table.
How about you guys – how do you like to personalize your Thanksgiving festivities?

Oh I LOVE this idea Liz! I have so missed your blog – while my computer was DEAD for the last week. Can you imagine a week without email or blogs? NOT FUN.
Oh, and I don’t personalize Thanksgiving…but we do bring British traditions home for the Christmas holidays! English crackers (with hats and toys inside them!), cider, and yorkshire puddings. MMM MMM GOOD!
Christy,
Eek, that’s no fun!! I’m so glad you’re back, I’ll be looking forward to the updates on your blog! By the way, you’re totally making me want to join your family for Christmas, the British traditions sound so lovely. :)

I really like those! I’m into gift tags right now and found some cute ones on Etsy…am publishing a post on those on Wendesday. Yours could be Etsy material! ;)
Liz,
Another way to help myself and also personalize my Thanksgiving table is to have guests bring a side dish (obviously the part that helps me) which, according to their own holiday tradition, is absolutely critical to have on the menu. That way, if I would NEVER in a million years make marshmallow sweet potatoes and they can’t imagine enjoying the meal without it, they will have it.
Love your emphasis on the giving thanks spirit of Thanksgiving.
What a terrific idea!
Oh, you clever girl. LOVE your polished pumpkins – they just pop on your white dishes. Simple, and beautiful ! I am starting a new tradition of writing down what we are thankful for every year, then keeping them in a scrapbook or journal of some kind. It will be fun to look back on it in the future.
Smiles,
Kate
What a great idea, Liz! What I like best about Thanksgiving is that there’s all that good food and none of the stress of holiday gift exchanges! This year we’ve got Dave’s folks coming into town and we’ll be doing our first big joint-family Thanksgiving! Should be entertaining!
Such a cute idea!
So cute. I love that idea. I am hosting this year and looking for ideas!
XOXO
