Now that our fab new rug is in its new home, I’m atwitter with the excitement of choosing a new fabric to recover the antique dining room chairs. But picking fabric is both a blessing and a curse – there are so many amazing options out there, so how is a girl to choose?!?
It’s been tough, but I’ve narrowed the field to 6 finalists, and I think I may have even decided on a winner. My criteria is pretty simple – the fabric has to introduce a new color into the mix (not just olive and chocolate), it has to be patterned (spills are a doozie in the dining room), and it has to be fun.
Here’s a rundown of the finalists:
1. Turquoise Peacock. What’s not to love about a peacock print? The turquoise is a fresh and welcome addition to the existing color palette, but I’m a little worried about introducing yet another animal-inspired print into the room.
2. Fuschia Ikat. Love ikat, love fuschia. Love that it adds in a bit of turquoise, too. But is fuschia in a dining room too much?
3. Confetti Squiggles. I’m smitten with the fact that this fabric introduces a plethora of colors to play with, but I think the pattern is a little too distracting when paired with the rug.
4. Confetti Damask. I think this pattern is gorgeous, and I’m particularly drawn to the traditional design with an updated color palette. But unfortunately, I’ve learned that money doesn’t grow on trees (darn!) and this fabric is wayyy out of my price range.
5. Olive Trellis. The trellis pattern has been a fave of mine for awhile, but for some reason it falls flat for me in this dining room, probably because it doesn’t introduce that all-important third color.
6. Eggplant Ikat. This one is the winner for me – it’s fun and funky, but maybe not as wild as the fuschia ikat. And while I typically don’t like colors in the purple family, I’m really digging the deep eggplant of this fabric.
So now that you’ve checked out the fabrics for yourself, what do you think? Is there a clear winner for you, or do you think I’ve gone off the deep end and need to keep looking?

#5 wins my vote! I like all your choices, but think purple will be difficult for seasons where one typically uses the dining room. #5 is neat because I like the controlled, regimented pattern next to the free form patterned rug, while it brings in the rug background, wall paint, and curtain color.
Nice choices!!!!!!
Too bad #4 is too pricey – that is far and away my favorite choice.
Your #1 is nice, too – I just think I’d get tired of that pattern sooner than I’d tire of choice #4. The purple ikat also looks like a larger pattern that might compete with the rug.
Per holiday decor concern above… I actually think the purple will look nice at Christmas since there is green in the pattern you can play up – esp. with your curtains.
You had me at turquoise peacock.
Gorgeous.
Before I even read what your leaning toward pick was..I decied on # 6…I think it plays nicly off your rug & curtains and dosn’t compete for attention form your rug…
I even like # 2 — somthing about the Ikat print seems like it will work really well with your rug and curtains
I am interpreting #1 as marbleized book-end papers — one of my alltime favorite patterns. The turquoise is definitely my favorite! The purplish tones could present a real challenge with holiday decor…
#4 and #5 are my faves
I’m with Averill. I’m now trying to figure out where I could possibly put some turquoise peacock fabric in my own home. But of course, whatever you choose will rock that dining room.
Yay, I knew you guys would have great advice!!!
Okay, so it looks like it’s between the eggplant ikat and the turquoise peacock – but I hope people still weigh in with their opinions! And Janis, you are so right – the peacock looks JUST like the marbleized book-end papers – how cool is that!!
I’m getting excited!! :)

I think you picked the perfect pattern – I LOVE #6 in your dining room! Can’t wait to see the finished product! Great job!
I am voting for number 6 or number 1.
My fav is #4, but since it’s out of the budget, I’m putting in my vote for peacock!!
I had picked #6 too just from the pictures!
#5 and #6 are my favourites, but I understand your need for more colour. The eggplant ikat is very funky, and I know you’ll get lots of compliments when people come over! Having that and the zebra print is a very original combination.
