A Starry Night

2009 December 14

It’s starting to look like I might have a thing for stars – first they made an appearance in our master bedroom, and now they’re cropping up in the hall bath!

Before I show you guys the full enchilada, I think it’s only appropriate that we take a quick trip down memory lane – remember how the hall bath looked when we first bought our house?

Hall bath - before

To say that it wasn’t pretty is quite an understatement!

Things got a bit better after the renovation, but there’s a reason that you’ve only seen the right half of the hall bath so far:

You see, the left half has been a little . . . naked.  For almost a year now.  For shame!!

Luckily, it only took a few mirrored stars and nails and about 5 minutes (plus 11 months) to remedy that embarrassing situation.

What do you guys think?  And while we’re at it, has anybody else had a hard time deciding how to decorate a bathroom?  Better yet – can anybody beat my record of almost a full year of naked bathroom walls?

LOVE the stars what a great idea. Sometimes it does take 11 months to get the right items. And yes, I am having a hard time with one wall in particular in our guest bathroom. It is long and with only one towel bar on it. I don’t want to put another picture or a shelf, not quite sure what to do with it. We have only been in this house 2 1/2 weeks.

Absolutely terrific! You have taken your powder room from “nice” to “fabulous” with your stars! GREAT JOB!!!

They look beautiful in there – what a fun element of surprise. The whole bath looks wonderful!

I’m in love with this look Liz – I never would have thought to put so many in one small room, but it looks FABULOUS! Now I want to copy you!

Our ‘third’ bedroom was empty for TWO YEARS! Until the Foo moved into it! :)

Decorating a bathroom is tough — after all, with all that moisture, you don’t exactly want to hang up precious family photos or expensive art. In the past I’ve used decorative wrought iron or inexpensive prints (if they get ruined, I don’t care). Oh and my two upstairs baths are pretty empty right now, too!

Love the star mirrors — where did you get them?

    Cheri,

I’m impressed that after only 2 1/2 weeks in your house, your powder room has ANYTHING in it! Way to go . . . that’s definitely inspiring me to kick things into high gear!

    Averill,

These babies are actually holiday decor from World Market (from my mom – thanks, Mom!!), but I think they’re great for year round – and they’re definitely staying up year round in my house! :)

I think the mirrored stars are a great solution to the blank walls.

Very pretty. It adds a lot to the walls!

The stars look fabulous. I took ages to do my powder room …. from colour (royal blue) to deciding what to hang on the wall … but I’m happy with it now.

Now that is one beautiful bathroom! I love those stars! I have also neglected our bathroom as well. I have some ideas in mind, but it just gets pushed to the back burner all the time.

    Great job on the re-model!

    Shanelle,

The stars are from World Market – they were part of the Christmas collection so I’m not sure if they still have them, but it’s definitely worth a try! Hope that helps. :)

    Christy,

You’re right, I’ve been totally MIA!! I think I took the laziness of the holidays a bit too seriously. :) I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, too!!!
