Homebody Query: TV In Bed?

It’s pretty much a given that everybody has a TV in their living room – but what about in the bedroom?

McGill Design

Are you the type that likes to catch a little Letterman in bed before turning out the lights, or do you have a strict no-TV-in-bed policy?  Maybe you’re dying to fall asleep to the sound of the TV but your spouse can’t stand it?  If you do have one in your bedroom, is it hidden away from sight or in full view?  It’s time to spill the beans, inquiring minds want to know!!

P.S.  I would have no trouble living in this bedroom by McGill Design Group, TV or not!!

I am a no tv in the bedroom kind of girl. I find if I have a tv in my room it keeps me from going to sleep!

We definitely has a TV in the bedroom. As a matter of fact, we have TVs in every room of the house, even the office and the spare bedroom where we do not go into often.

    No TV in the bedroom!

  4. b*schus says:

No TV for us. It started out as my husband’s preference (I didn’t care either way), but I find I sleep better without one!

We only have one tv, and it’s in our playroom/family room. Even if I had one in my bedroom, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t watch it much. Once I hit the hay, I’m out! I didn’t even have a tv before I met Matt – I am addicted to a few HGTV and bravo shows, oh, and Lost, but I don’t watch it much! That room you featured is beautiful though – tv or no!

When we bought our house, one of the requirements was that it have a finished basement (or other non-main room) where we could use the Television. We do not subscribe to cable and only receive a channel or two through our antenna, so we mostly use our TV for movies and video games. So in our home, there is no TV in our living room. It is in the basement with the old recliners. We do have two TVs.. the other is the old TV that I had prior to the hubs gently suggesting we needed a bigger one. It is set up in our upstairs guest room, and is only set up because I realized that I cannot do Wii Fit in the basement: ceiling is too low!!

I have to confess – we have a 50″ tv in our bedroom! Not really intentionally, we just moved from a larger house, in which we had two large screen tv’s, into a smaller place, so the 50″ had no place to go but in our bedroom. I have to admit though – it is great to watch tv at night without having to put my glasses on:-)

I’m a Leno fan, by the way! Can’t wait until he gets back on the Tonight Show!

  8. Katrina says:

We didn’t have a tv in our bedroom untill recently – my husband surprised my with a tv for the bedroom – because he was tired of my sneeking out in the bedroom on weekend to watch hgtv! lol

  9. Irene R says:

We have a TV in our bedroom, but its used mostly to get our daughter to sleep at night. (don’t ask) Sometimes I might use it on the weekends if I am not feeling well and want to watch tv in bed.

I am hoping that in our new home, there won’t be a tv in the bedroom.

  10. Averill says:

We have a TV in the bedroom currently, though our plan is to relocate it to the living room when we’ve had built-ins installed that can hold it. It’s nice to watch a movie in bed every now and then (and great when you’re sick!), but generally I think it’s an unwelcome distraction.

  11. Liz says:

I like it, we seem to have a split crowd!! We’ve never had a TV in our bedroom, but I can definitely see the appeal – I would never turn down another opportunity to catch a little HGTV! :)

We have one… I like to have the news on while getting ready for work. We probably should be better about turning it on less often though!!

  13. Elle says:

I say no TV in the bedroom, until the kids are older and we need a retreat. I am such a TV addict that I would get no reading done if I had the TV in my bedroom, and I love to read.

  14. While the TV is perfectly nestled in this gorgeous built in, my husband I have banished ours from the bedroom. In lieu of the TV, I would place our most prize artwork. It delights the eye, but in a more quiet way. Ha, I’m always thinking about places to put art. I’m a tad addicted to building an art collection at the moment. Sigh.

  15. Lynn says:

No tv in the bedroom! Love it that way!

  16. Dawn says:

I have always been a “no TV in the bedroom” kinda person, but if I had a wall like the one in that picture – it might be a different story!!! Wow!

  17. Em says:

I actually don’t have a TV in my living room…I was adamant about that. We have TVs in our den and family room…and yes, bedroom. I fall asleep to it every night (have since high school) but I have to turn the picture off b/c my husband hates the light.

  18. DCKate says:

We don’t have a TV in our bedroom. We feel like there’s so much distraction all over the rest of the house (TV, computers, radio, etc) that we want to keep the bedroom as distraction free as possible. Reading, sleep and… well, ya know. The only things our bedroom is used for ;-)

  19. Nicole says:

We do have a t.v. in our room, but not by my choice. Once re-do our bedroom I have been promised that I can say goodbye to the tv in he bedroom! WhooHOO!!!

  20. Jackie B says:

Actually, I don’t know much of anyone who has a tv in their living room. Everyone has one in the family room though!!! I do have one in my bedroom because sometimes we bicker over football, basketball and HGTV (and The Bachelor), but it is hidden in a large armoire and out of sight. Bad feng shui to have a tv screen in your bedroom — supposedly sucks the life out of the room.

  21. Carolyn says:

We have a TV in the bedroom – it’s in an armoire with doors that close. I could live without it, but I don’t think hubby could! LOL! The armoire is a wonderful compromise for us.
