The Flip: The Current Floor Plan

Yay, thanks so much for your feedback on the photos of the flip yesterday!  It was so much fun getting to hear about what you guys thought should stay and what should definitely get the heave ho.  Some of the things you mentioned are definitely on the “to do” list, but you’ll have to wait and see!!

A few of you mentioned that the layout seemed a little familiar – well, there’s a reason for that.  The new flip is just around the corner from our house, so the floor plans are almost identical!  (You can check out our floor plan here, and it’s pretty much the same as the last flip, too.)

Want to see what I’m talking about?  Well, here’s a little floor plan that I whipped up a few weeks ago so that Jason and I could see what we’re working with and better plan our renovations:

Does it look how you imagined?

I happen to think this particular floor plan is really awesome to live in.  What’s your layout like, and how do you feel about your home’s floor plan?

  1. Wow, look at all those CLOSETS! So jealous! I generally like the layout of our house, but just like most, there are certain things that drive me crazy.

Yay for floor plans! It’s sort of how I pictured it, but looking at it this way I have a couple more things that bother me.

    1. The sliding doors from the master bedroom to the patio, I’m not a fan. I’d rather have my bedroom be a little more private.

    2. The location of master bath and closet. I’d flip the wall they were on to the one closest to the 3rd bedroom in order to get some more windows/natural light in there. (This does involve moving plumbing, but I’d say it’s worth it)

    3. I’d also try taking that wall between the family room and the kitchen. That’d be such a difference. If you manage that then maybe also the wall between the family room and the living room.

    4. The carpet in the “Formal Dining Room” has to go.

Probably half this stuff isn’t a good idea for flip because it’d cost more than the value you’d get, but I can’t help but turn it into exactly what I’d want lol. Jeepers, I got a little carried away sorry!

So cool! Look at all those closets! But, you have to go through the laundry room to get to the 4th bedroom? Are you going to stage it as an office or something? And it’s nice that the garage doesn’t face the street – ours does and it takes up a lot of the front ‘curb appeal’ or lack thereof in our house. We have a split level and just love it!

  4. It’s a great layout and is a very efficient use of space — I like how one of the bedrooms is separated…great to use as an office or guest room.

I like our floor plan. In fact, it was the biggest driver on why we bought the house. Only wish our bedroom wasn’t so far away from the soon-to-be nursery! But, once the kid is older, it will be good, I think. (Keeps the noise and mess far away from me!)

That is so funny, I just asked you if the layout was similar to your home (on yesterday’s post)….. because it reminded me of your house!

Now I’m super curios to know if you plan on opening up the kitchen to the family room like you did in your own home?

I like this floor plan. I’m actually trying to draw our floor plan and come up with different options. What software are you using?

      Tammy,

I’ve used FloorPlanner.com for awhile now (it’s free for up to 5 floor plans) and I’ve been really happy with it. Happy floor planning! :)
