Feature in Redbook Magazine!

Whoa.

Feature in Redbook Magazine - September 2012

So yesterday I’m walking through Walmart, shopping for diapers and mayonnaise, while Jason and Peanut are waiting for me in the car.  I make a little detour to the magazine aisle and BAM!!  There we are, in the September issue of Redbook!  I instantly texted Jason a pic of the article:

Text Message re: Feature in Redbook Magazine

Needless to say, he was just as excited as me.  :)

All of this started way back in March, but I had no idea if the article was ever going to see the light of day.  I got an email from a freelance writer while we were on our pre-baby road trip back in March, saying that she came across my blog and was interested in pitching a story about our flips to Redbook.  I remember I was sitting in the car at a gas station while Jason was asking directions to Luckenbach when I saw the email come across my phone – our conversation once Jason got back in the car went a lot like the text message above, but with even more exclamation points and words that would have to be blurred out.  :)

As soon as we got back from our road trip I made a call to the writer and did a quick little phone interview.  Then . . . nothing.  Over a month passed and I decided that nothing was going to come of it but to just be flattered that they thought of me in the first place.

Then, on May 10th (the day this one was born), I finally got an email from a photo editor at Redbook – it turns out things had been moving forward behind the scenes all along!  I got back to her 3 days later (still impressed with myself for that one) and thus began a series of back and forth emails and phone interviews.  Fun stuff!

I was told the article was for the August issue, and then that it had been pushed back to the September issue.  I kept telling myself that it probably wasn’t going to be published, and mentioned it to very few people, so that I wouldn’t be too disappointed when it didn’t happen.  But it DID!!!

The article focuses on our third flip and is all about smart ways to stretch your dollars during a renovation – and if you’ve ever been curious about the actual money we spend and make during our flips, here’s your chance to read about it.  :)  Check out page 127 of the September issue of Redbook and let me know what you think!
