I’m one of those people that always dreads the onset of the cold winter months – short days, long nights and freezing temperatures don’t rank very high on my list of awesome things. However, now that there’s a little nip in the air here in Dallas (at night, at least), I’m actually finding myself looking forward to snuggling up in front of the fire under a blanket while sipping hot chocolate. (Actually, that’s already happened, minus the hot chocolate part. And we turned on the heater the other night – let me tell you, we are wild and crazy around here.)
Maybe because of the impending chilly nights, these days I’m really loving rooms with deep, warm browns, rich pumpkin tones and lots of crisp white. Something about that color combination just feels cozy to me.

What do you think – does that feel cozy to you, or is all that white too stark? Are you a cold weather hater like me, or are you counting the days until the first snowfall? And are there any color combos that are inspiring you these days?

Did y’all have a great Halloween weekend?? Mine was lots of fun, and filled with bratwurst, beer and polka music because we went to Wurstfest in New Braunfels with some friends – we loved it! We also had some traditional Halloween fun last night, and watched the Rangers lose Game 4 of the World Series. Hmm, wonder if they can get it together?
Anyhoo, back to the topic at hand – I seem to have a wee obsession with yoke pendants. To me, two or three of these statement pieces instantly transform a ho-hum kitchen into a chic yet timeless space.

And apparently I’m not the only one – if you search for “kitchens, yoke pendants” on DecorPad, you can immediately see that these gorgeous pendants are pretty darn hot in design right now. Here are just a few of my faves:

Gorgeous, right? And the beefier the better in my book. They’ve been called “yoke pendants” because of the hardware that connects the ceiling rod to the pendant shade.
The only problem is that these beauties can be serious budget busters. Like almost a grand for this pendant from Circa Lighting, and even the more budget-friendly version from Restoration Hardware would probably make me cry a little as I pulled out my credit card. Not that I would be pulling out my credit card – I knew there had to be cheaper versions out there!
And luckily I found some. Here they are:

Quoizel’s Large Emery Pendant – 13.5″ diameter – $198

Quorum’s Chrome Pendant – 16.5″ diameter – special order from Lights Fantastic in Dallas for about $160

Home Depot’s World Imports Pendant – 20″ diameter – $76.96
Have you fallen in love with yoke pendants, too? Or maybe there’s some other design trend that’s buttering your bread these days? Do tell!!
