Happenings

Long time no see!!  Sorry I’ve been MIA for so long – I hope your holiday was as busy (and fun!) as mine!

The past two weeks have been a blur, filled with a gift exchange with my girlfriends, driving around the fancy part of town looking at Christmas lights, and spending lots of time with family.  We even got snow on Christmas Eve that lasted through Christmas day – who would have thought Dallas would ever see a white Christmas?

Happenings

But wait, I’m getting ahead of myself – we had a Christmas Eve that couldn’t be beat!  We spent the evening in the penthouse suite at the Stoneleigh Hotel . . .

Happenings

[Just imagine a night sky and tons of snow and you'll have a pretty good idea of how the suite looked on the big night!]

. . . where my future brother-in-law surprised my sister with an engagement ring!  Both families were hiding in a back room to surprise my sister after her fiance popped the question – it was so much fun, and I couldn’t be more excited for them.

The fun continued on Christmas day with LOTS of goodies (more about those later!) and good times with our families.  We’re so lucky that both of our families live in Dallas – the thought of having to pick one family to spend the holidays with sounds so hard!

And can you believe that as of December 26th we’ve been in our house for 1 year?  It boggles my mind, and I can’t believe that over the course of a year this formerly-empty house . . .

Happenings

. . . now looks like this and this and this and this.  Crazy!

We capped off the holiday celebrations with a quick trip to see the ICE! exhibit at the Gaylord Texan – to say that it’s a Texas-sized ice exhibit in a Texas-sized hotel is an understatement.  As you can probably imagine, two million pounds of ice carved into scenes from The Grinch Who Stole Christmas is pretty darn impressive!

Happenings

[Yup, those are just random people from the exhibit's website]

So that pretty much sums up my holiday!  It was excellent, and I loved every minute – how about you guys??

Feeling Jolly

Isn’t it crazy how just a little dose of Christmas decor can really get you into the holiday spirit?  We were a little late in festooning our house this year (we try to aim for the day after Thanksgiving), but I’m pleased to report that after a night of Christmas music, tree lighting, a flickering fire and some wine, we are now feeling thoroughly jolly.

Here’s a little taste of how we’re decking the halls this year:

How about you guys?  Go ahead and link to your holiday decor in the Comments, we’d love to see it!

P.S.  Here’s a HUGE thank you to all of you that chimed in with your thoughts about the fabrics I was considering for the dining room chairs – you guys were a big help, and the fabric has been ordered!!  I’m super excited – hopefully it will arrive in a jiffy so I can show you how it all turns out!!

‘Round The Table

You should have seen us last night, cruising down the highway in a big truck packed to the gills, with blankets and rope flapping in the breeze to tie down our cargo.  We were quite a sight!

Look what we brought home with us:

'Round the Table

Isn’t it gorgeous?!?

Remember that table that made an appearance last week in my video for Thanksgiving . . .

'Round the Table

. . . and Christmas?

'Round the Table

Well, we have now parted ways with that $100 table that I bought from the Scratch ‘n Dent store when I was in law school 6 years ago (and the chairs have made their way back into the breakfast room) – and now we have this beautiful mahogany table and chairs, and we’ll even have room for 6 people when we put in the leaf!  Oh goodness, I’m so excited!

'Round the Table

The table and chairs belonged to my uncle’s mother, and he and my aunt are so lovely and offered to let us use it.  The word on the street is that the table was crafted back in the 1920s – how cool is that?

Now all I need to do is pick out some fabric so that I can reupholster these seat cushions . . .

'Round the Table

Got any suggestions on fabric?

P.S.  There’s a holiday decor blog party going on over at The DIY Show Off – head on over there to get some serious inspiration!  I added my video about transitioning your decor from Thanksgiving to Christmas, and I can’t wait to see what everybody else has to say!
