The Flip: The Jack ‘n Jill Bathroom, Then & Now

And the before and after tour of the flip continues!  (These links will take you to tours of the great room and dining room.)

There are 3 full bathrooms in this house – the one that you’re going to see in this post is pretty important as it adjoins two of the bedrooms (a.k.a. jack ‘n jill bath) and also serves as the guest bathroom for the house.

Here’s how the jack ‘n jill bathroom turned out after we spiffed it up with a smorgasbord of travertine and a fancy chevron patterned tile floor:

And here’s how the jack ‘n jill bathroom used to look:

Ah, a 1970s classic.  Even though the existing tile was in great shape, it was avocado green and therefore had to go.  The wallpaper, counter top, sliding shower door and existing fixtures also got the boot.  In their place came crisp white subway tile, mexican noce travertine, accents in a glass and marble mosaic tile, and new fixtures including a dual flush toilet.  We also decided to have the demo guys remove the doorway/wall that separated the vanity from the shower/toilet area to get rid of that choppy feeling.

And now it’s time for the gratuitous “after” shots.  :)

( Recognize this tile?  That’s right, it’s extra tile left over from the glass and marble backsplash we did at the first flip! )

( These built-ins were originally a cabinet with doors, etc. – but it was accidentally torn out during demo.  Whoops!  When it was re-built, we decided that open shelving was the way to go – I envision lots of baskets and rolled towels. )

( My next house will have a chevron patterned tile floor like this one – it makes me swoon every time I see it!!  Three cheers for our tile guy, he did a fab job. )

That’s all, folks!  Did this before and after live up to your expectations?

The Flip: Staging Sources for the Dining Room

Did you guys have a great weekend?  We actually got snow here in Dallas, which was kind of exciting.  The weather got all crazy right before our open house on Sunday, which we were pretty worried about, but somehow we still had a really great turn out!

Thanks for your awesome comments about the dining room!  Here are the sources we used for staging (with links where possible and while they last).

The Flip: Staging Sources for the Dining Room

  • chandeliercb2, Lumen Pendant Lamp, no longer available (Ack!  I just looked for it and it seems to have been discontinued – I was thinking of getting it for our home, so this kind of breaks my heart!)
  • dining table – Weir’s, local furniture store (has 2 leaves not pictured)
  • upholstered chairs – World Market, Marco Dining Chair in Surf (on sale)
  • striped rug – Pottery Barn, 8 x 10 Striped Cotton Mat in Blue (steal of the century!)
  • silver bowl/tray – Macy’s, Nambé “Uliveto” Bread Tray, wedding present, from my home
  • woven decorative balls – Home Goods

The Flip: Staging Sources for the Dining Room

  • wood buffet – Home Goods
  • glass-base lamps – Home Goods
  • floral canvas artwork – Ikea, PJÄTTERYD

That’s all, folks!  If there’s anything I missed or if you have any questions, hit me up in the comments!  :)

The Flip: The Dining Room, Then & Now

After the great room, the next reveal on the agenda is the dining room!

The Flip: The Dining Room, Then & Now

Here’s how it looked 3 months ago:

The Flip: The Dining Room, Then & Now

Renovating the dining room was a breeze when compared to the great room.  All it needed was new bamboo floors, a column-ectomy and a little layout switcheroo.

The original dining room was in the smaller back room, and the larger room with the bay window was the formal living room.  Since the house already had a ginormous great room we thought the formal living room was a little unnecessary, so we took the opportunity to upgrade the dining room to the larger room so that the future homeowners can host big family dinners and all of that fun stuff (the room can actually accommodate a much larger table but we chose not to use our table’s leaves).  To us, the smaller adjoining room makes more sense as a sitting area or study, but we left the junction box so the future owners can always turn it back into a dining room by moving the chandelier if they’re so inclined.  A win-win in my book.

( The bay window is definitely my favorite part of the dining room, but I can’t take any credit for that since our only contribution to the window was having it cleaned! )

It’s amazing what a little paint and flooring can do!  What do you guys think?
