The Flip: Rub A Dub Dub, Here’s Our Jetted Tub

So far it looks like my wish has been granted – we are on track to start framing.  (Clicks heels in the air.)

You may recall that our grand plan for the master bathroom recalls a tub – a jetted tub, to be precise.

Since framing should be starting oh so soon, we had to scurry quick to find and purchase said jetted tub so that the master bath could be framed properly (framing around the drop-in tub impacts the framing for the shower, etc.)

A few weeks ago when we were scouting materials we noticed that Seconds & Surplus had a ridiculously large inventory of fab looking jetted tubs at even more fab prices.  We ran over there during lunch and fell in love with this baby:

I think the fact that it’s covered in dirty footprints gives it that little something extra, don’t you?

We brought my SUV in the hopes that this ginormous tub would fit, but we weren’t really holding our breaths over it.  Jason’s dad lives nearby and we figured that we’d probably swing by his house to borrow his truck.

Luckily after a quick test drive with the measuring tape I discovered that the tub would just fit in the back of my SUV.

This is what we call a “perfect fit,” ladies and gents!

Now I’m jealous that our flip is going to have a jetted tub and I don’t.  Sigh.

We Must Be Idiots

I don’t normally think of myself as a girl that can’t screw in a light bulb.  But apparently I am.

Here’s what happened – we moved into our house after we remodeled it and the pendant lights in our master bathroom were happily glowing with all their halogen goodness:

Fast forward a few months and all of a sudden our bathroom is dark and sad because of two burned out pendants:

Fast forward a few more months and our bathroom is still dark and sad . . . because we can’t figure out how to change the light bulbs.  Yes, you read that right.  The light bulbs thwarted us.

Every month or so we’d try again, twisting and pulling and doing anything we could think of to get the danged light bulbs out of their glass prisons.  And give us some more light.  But each time, they outsmarted us.

But not today, my friends – not today.  Today I declared victory over those pesky pendants and yanked – yes, yanked! – these little blown glass covers out of the pendants, revealing the light bulbs underneath, which I then yanked out.  I never would have thought yanking was the answer, but apparently it was.  Who knew?

Since we only had one extra bulb (I told you we were idiots), we now have 2 out of 3 pendants functioning properly.  Although I haven’t quite figured out yet how to get the blown glass covers back on the pendants . . . oh well.  Baby steps, right?

Sadly, I think that confession negates my MacGuyver moment from a few weeks ago.  Got any moments of less-than-brilliance to share that might make me feel better?

P.S.  Is anybody else having trouble accessing the blog?  (Of course if you are then you probably aren’t reading this right now.)  I’m hoping it’s just me . . .

Our Flip: Counters Galore

The counters at the flip have been installed!!  It’s definitely starting to look more like a house, and we are thrilled.  It seems like only yesterday that we were shopping for the slabs of granite, marble and travertine.

Remember what the vanity in the master bath used to look like?  A sea of formica and a single dated, drop-in sink:

But not anymore!!  Take a look at the vanity in the master bath now:

Our Flip: Counters Galore

Polished crema marfil marble countertops, and two gorgeous undermount sinks.  With new lower cabinets in and the old upper cabinets removed, the vanity is now light and airy and doesn’t feel cramped and out-dated like it used to.  And I’m loving the new sconces and molding – and counting the days until all of that lovely hardware is installed!

The jack ‘n jill bath isn’t looking too shabby, either, with its honed crema claro travertine countertops:

It still has a way to go before it’s finished, but it’s a huge improvement over how it used to look!

But I think the kitchen it still my favorite, although it definitely wasn’t much of a looker in the beginning:

Our Flip: Some Serious Progress!!

Now, the kitchen has just as much storage but it also benefits from a much-improved layout (notice how we moved the fridge and the oven), is open to the den, has beautiful cabinets, and let’s not forget those awesome new granite countertops!

Don’t worry, those empty spaces will look much less weird once the new appliances are installed!  I think the thing I’m most excited about in the kitchen is the new backsplash – it’s scheduled to be installed today, so hopefully I’ll be able to show you guys pictures really soon.  So exciting!

Now, I know you haven’t seen the full enchilada yet, but what do you think so far?  Are you as anxious to see the finished product as I am?  Pins and needles, people!
