Fabulously Furbished

Did you see this new vignette from Jamie’s store?

I die.

What’s not to love?  Chevron?  Check.  Flirty skirt?  Check.  Chiang Mai Dragon?  Check.  Peacock?  Check.

Spectacular, I tell you.

If you don’t live near Jamie’s store in Raleigh and want to try something similar in your home, here’s how you could do it:

~ Buy a Craigslist settee like this.

~ Upholster the settee in a chevron fabric like this.  Be sure to include the sassy skirt.

~ Buy or make a lumbar pillow out of Schumacher’s Chiang Mai Dragon fabric in the aquamarine colorway like this.  Etsy and Ebay are great resources.

~ Buy or make two throw pillows in a similar orange and white fabric like this, this, this, or this.  {On a related note, I’m also loving the peacock pillows here and here.}

~ Buy or make two throw pillows out of this cherry blossom fabric.

Done!

A Touch of Turquoise

I bet you guys thought I forgot, right?

Without further adieu, here are our newly recovered dining room chairs!

Recover Chairs

As you can see, I went with the turquoise peacock and I am in love!  (And I bought the last yardage they had – yikes!!)

I think it’s a pretty good upgrade from the seat cushions that came along with the antique dining set (wink wink):

'Round the Table

Weren’t those lovely?

I have to give a shout out to my new best friend, the PowerShot Pro – it doesn’t have the best reviews, but for under 30 buckeroos I’m not complaining!  It certainly made the job of stapling in the new fabric about ten thousand times faster than doing it by hand.

A Touch of Turquoise

I’m really loving the combo of turquoise, chocolate brown and olive-y green.  I’m hoping to bring out a bit more of the turquoise through accessories like lamps and maybe some DIY artwork.  I’m excited to see how it (eventually) turns out!  (P.S.  Aren’t those candlesticks awesome?!?)

A Touch of Turquoise

And I’m not the only one that’s loving the new chairs – here’s my fat kitty, Riley, giving the fabric a little snuggle before I recovered the chairs.

A Touch of Turquoise

What do you guys think?  Did I pick the right fabric?  Got any suggestions for drawing in some new turquoise accents?

‘Round The Table

You should have seen us last night, cruising down the highway in a big truck packed to the gills, with blankets and rope flapping in the breeze to tie down our cargo.  We were quite a sight!

Look what we brought home with us:

'Round the Table

Isn’t it gorgeous?!?

Remember that table that made an appearance last week in my video for Thanksgiving . . .

'Round the Table

. . . and Christmas?

'Round the Table

Well, we have now parted ways with that $100 table that I bought from the Scratch ‘n Dent store when I was in law school 6 years ago (and the chairs have made their way back into the breakfast room) – and now we have this beautiful mahogany table and chairs, and we’ll even have room for 6 people when we put in the leaf!  Oh goodness, I’m so excited!

'Round the Table

The table and chairs belonged to my uncle’s mother, and he and my aunt are so lovely and offered to let us use it.  The word on the street is that the table was crafted back in the 1920s – how cool is that?

Now all I need to do is pick out some fabric so that I can reupholster these seat cushions . . .

'Round the Table

Got any suggestions on fabric?

P.S.  There’s a holiday decor blog party going on over at The DIY Show Off – head on over there to get some serious inspiration!  I added my video about transitioning your decor from Thanksgiving to Christmas, and I can’t wait to see what everybody else has to say!
