The Saga of the Breakfast Room Chairs: Finished!!

The chairs are finally finished!

The Saga of the Breakfast Room Chairs: Finished!!

Yes, the very same ones that I started talking about back in February – but they were totally worth the wait.  (Progress reports here, here, here, here and here.)

The Saga of the Breakfast Room Chairs: Finished!!

I started with four plain Ikea chairs and gave them a little more personality.

The Saga of the Breakfast Room Chairs: Finished!!

It was an incredibly easy project, but it did take f.o.r.e.v.e.r.

The Saga of the Breakfast Room Chairs: Finished!!

And yes, I did take a ridiculous amount of photos of them – if I devoted 9 zillion hours to them, then by golly I am going to photograph the heck out of’em!

The Saga of the Breakfast Room Chairs: Finished!!

I love the way our breakfast nook looks now – it’s a lot more “us” than our former table and chairs.

And the best part is that these slipcovers are totally washable!  A definite bonus for a klutz like me.

And while I had my doubts about Ikea chairs, these are super comfy.

So, what do you think – did you think this saga was ever going to come to an end?  How do you think the chairs worked out?  And stay tuned for a how-to post coming up soon . . .

Oomph, There It Is

It pains me to pay a lot for something when I’m pretty sure I can achieve a similar look for pennies on the dollar.

Like when I spied this gorgeous coffee table from Oomph the other day:

Lacquer-y goodness?  Yes!  Almost $2,000?  Heck no!

While I was busy getting over the sticker shock I started thinking about our coffee table.  We got it at Macy’s right after we got married {we had lots of store credit, as most newlyweds do} and in the 3 years that we’ve had it the coffee table has gotten a few nicks and scars, and we now have a brown rug.  So it’s a lot of brown going on in there.

Anyhoo, the point is that the pricey Oomph coffee table reminded me a lot of our much-cheaper-plus-we-already-own-it coffee table from Macy’s:

{ I de-styled it so you could see our coffee table in all its glory. }

Can you see the similarity, too?  Okay, maybe it doesn’t have all of the cool angular patterns that the pricey coffee table has, but I think that the square shape and narrow wood slats give off a similar vibe.

So here’s where I’d love your input – would you go ahead and paint our coffee table?  And if so, what color would you paint it? {Here’s a reminder of the color scheme that we have going on in our den.}

Springtime Is Delicious

Crate & Barrel has jumped on the spring bandwagon with their newest dinnerware collection and I am LOVING it!

Loads of bright & festive colors, graphic patterns and modern designs {think square bowls and plates} make throwing together a spring or summer-inspired soiree a total snap.  Don’t these make you want to sit out in the sun with a {very large} margarita?

From left to right, top to bottom: 1. Ruffle Chargers; 2. Square Dishes; 3. Square Plates; 4. Sorrento Melamine Dinner Plates; 5. Dipping Bowls; 6. Loire Plates; 7. Bianca Melamine Dinner Plates;  8. Whim Plates; 9. Focus Bowls; 10. Square Dishes.

If my husband wouldn’t divorce me, you can be sure I’d be loading up on these babies, particularly the turquoise melamine dinner plates with a few of the dishes from the “square” series thrown in for extra pizazz.  I swoon.

You can check out even more springy additions to the C&B dinnerware collections right here.
